New play equipment installed at Loughor Rugby Club thanks to local community efforts
Rugby club volunteers and local Labour councillors have combined to pay for and install brand new play equipment at Loughor RFC.
Councillors Robert Smith, Andrew Stevens and Jan Curtice have contributed funds from their community budge, while Loughor RFC juniors have raised money and there was also a donation from Admiral Insurance.
The equipment, including a slide and swings, was installed by volunteers from the club through their Heart of the Community project.
Upper Loughor Cllr Robert Smith said: “I’m very glad that the council has been able to contribute to this project, and I know how much effort has been given by club members to build this facility which will be great for the kids in the future.”
Penyrheol Cllr Stevens said: “Grassroots sports are at the heart of our local communities and I am pleased to support the excellent work being done in Loughor.
“They are an outstanding community club that is open to all, and I want to commend the brilliant work being done by volunteers, transforming the club for the next generation.
Penyrheol Cllr Jan Curtice said: “Now we are coming out of lockdown this is going to be a really great asset for the local community and Loughor Rugby Club. So much hard work has gone into getting this facility up and running.”
Marc O’Kelly, Chair of the Heart of the Community initiative, added: “Loughor junior section have built the park with support from three local councillors, the heart of the community foundation and Loughor RFC.
“A huge thanks has to go to all who donated to the fund and our team of dedicated volunteers, special mention to Johnathon Phillips who completed the groundwork.”
Kevin Lewis, Loughor Secretary said: “I want to thank all those in the community for volunteering for the club, and a big thank you goes to the three councillors for the grant. Hopefully, it will get children outdoors and involved in the local sports club.”
